Utah is a magnificent county of United States with several equally marvelous cities such as American Fork City, Lehi, Mapleton, Orem, Draper, American Fork, Alpine and Provo City.
The city of Provo is an exciting city with some of the most exciting and appealing varieties of attractions. The attractions include several historically significant buildings, museums with a range of interesting sightseeing opportunities. If you are visiting the city for a very first time, it is always a good idea to go with local tour agencies. This will facilitate you to reach every possible tourist destination without any time lag. One can also stroll through the city on its own. This is also a very good mean of exploring the area but it takes some time and there is a possibility that you may miss some of the attractions.
The city of Provo was named after the French-Canadian explorer Etienne Provost. It was founded in the year 1825 and Mormons were the first who settled around the area in 1840. As the entire Provo city was full of extensive collection of trees and gardens, it was referred as ‘The Garden City’. It is situated at just around forty five miles from Salt Lake City.
Most of the natural scenic areas of city are situated at the backdrop of Wasatch Mountains. This region is known as the ‘moutainland region’. This city is considered as the third largest city of the state of Utah with a population of about 118,581. It also accommodates one of the largest higher education institutions in United States in form of Brigham Young University. The university is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It also offers a range of attractions which the guests would not afford to miss. These attractions include BYU Earth Science Museum, Riverside Country Club, Provo Tabernacle, Uinta National Forest and several other attractions to add to the list.
BYU Earth Science Museum is a compact museum with lot of exciting and interesting exhibits. This magnificent museum was founded in the year 1976. It is well renowned for its fossils and exhibits related with paleontology. It accommodates the world’s best Jurassic dinosaur bone collections. One can also watch an egg of the dinosaur that is around 150 million years old.
The Earth Science Museum exhibits a collection of ice-age mammals with magnificent sea creatures. It also houses dinosaurs and the impression of their skin. You can also visit the dinosaur excavation shop situated in the premises of the museum.
Provo Tabernacle is an interesting place to visit during your tour to the city of Provo. It is a classic example of Victorian-style gables and stained-glass windows. The building is almost about hundred and twenty years old built by the Latter Day Saints Church. Tabernacle holds a very important position in the religious and cultural activities of the city. This is also a proud venue of several concerts, events and operas.
It hosts America’s Freedom Festival which is the largest celebration of the nation’s independence. This festival comprises thirty events that last for about twenty one days. It also organizes two major festivals such as the Festival of Latinoamericano and the Sego Festival.
